Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup yellow moong dal de-husked
  • 1/4 cup green moong dal with skin
  • 1 small onion roughly chopped
  • 1 small tomato roughly chopped
  • 1 green chilli broken in two
  • 1/2 inch ginger roughly chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic roughly chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon haldi powder/ turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • salt to taste
  • coriander with stalks to garnish finely chopped
  • some lemon juice to squeeze with serving

Method
 

  1. Wash and soak the dal for a few hours. ( It is Ok not to soak if you haven’t planned ahead..)
  2. In a pressure cooker bring all the ingredients, except coriander and lemon) together.
  3. Add 2 cups of water.
  4. Cook on medium flame for 4-5 whistles or until the daals are well cooked.
  5. Once the pressure subsides, open the lid, using an immersion blender churn the soup to a homogenous mixture.
  6. Add water if required to bring it to a thick soup like consistency. After adding water cook for couple of minutes to bring it to a gentle simmer.
  7. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  8. Serve piping hot garnished with some chopped coriander and squeeze of lemon juice.
